Federal Work-Study (FWS) Messaging Toolkit
Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a powerful tool for getting college students into evidence-based, people-powered roles such as tutoring, mentoring, postsecondary transition coaching, student success coaching, and wraparound supports coordination. Most institutions that receive FWS funding must allocate 7% of these funds for community service positions, and providing these kinds of supports to P-12 students is an excellent way to meet or exceed this requirement while providing a meaningful, developmental experience for the college student working with them.
A significant barrier to Federal Work-Study usage is awareness. Many students are eligible for Federal Work-Study, but either do not know or do not utilize the funds. That’s why the Partnership for Student Success (PSS), in collaboration with members of the PSS Federal Work-Study Working Group, have developed these ready-made resources for academic and career advisors of college students and high school upperclassmen to share with students and partners. This brief contains:
- A summary of two resources for communicating essential information about Federal Work-Study to current and prospective college students
- Instructions on accessing, copying, modifying, and using both resources in either pamphlet or social media slide form
- Design details, for replication in other software if needed
- The full text of both resources
- Additional Federal Work-Study Information
Both resources are meant to be customized to your organization or institution, such as where to find Federal Work-Study job postings, information on your Career Center, or how to make an appointment with Financial Aid.
