Unlocking Apprenticeship Opportunities for Tutors
As tutoring programs grow, evolve, and seek to diversify their funding sources, there is a promising opportunity to align with state workforce systems and apprenticeship pathways, expanding the support and recognition available for this work.
To help realize this potential, the Partnership for Student Success, the New Jersey Tutoring Corps, the National Student Support Accelerator and the Pathways Alliance drafted a set of National Guideline Standards (NGS) for registered tutor apprenticeship programs. Following consideration of feedback from a public comment period from key stakeholders in the tutoring industry, the draft NGS were submitted to the U.S. Department of Labor in August 2025, and are currently pending approval.
These standards build upon existing quality frameworks and aim to position effective tutoring models as quality workforce-aligned experiences that can align programs for apprenticeship funding and support state and local workforce boards in accelerating approval for programs that meet nationally recognized standards for quality.
Resources to Support Tutor Apprenticeships
The resources below were developed by working group members to support implementation of tutor apprenticeships and related apprenticeship programs.
PSS, National Student Support Accelerator, New Jersey Tutoring Corps, and Pathways Alliance plan to release additional implementation-focused resources once the National Guideline Standards are approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.
